Why I backed APC’s Oyebamiji over Adeleke — Oyinlola

Former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola has detailed his reasons for endorsing the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, over the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke in the recent election.

When the political party (Peoples Democratic Party) was hit by serious turbulence at the national level, we foresaw that it would eventually affect us at the state level.

Oyinlola, speaking on Channels Television's Politics Today, expressed no regrets about his decision. He pointed to the internal turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the national level, which he anticipated would impact the state chapter. Furthermore, he accused Governor Adeleke of failing to consult stakeholders before defecting to the Accord Party and of concentrating major government projects in his hometown, Ede.

"When the political party (Peoples Democratic Party) was hit by serious turbulence at the national level, we foresaw that it would eventually affect us at the state level," Oyinlola stated. He explained that the intention was to find an alternative platform for their candidate, but this plan was derailed when Adeleke unexpectedly announced his departure from the PDP via social media.

We only just saw on the social media that Mr Governor had resigned from our party and he had ported to the Accord Party.

Highlighting concerns about equitable development, Oyinlola criticized Adeleke's administration for what he described as a skewed distribution of resources. "As of today, government has executed about 20 major projects around the senatorial districts. Out of the N362 billion spent altogether, N260.5 billion was spent in Ede," he noted, adding that such favoritism does not bode well for the state.

Oyinlola also addressed Adeleke's claim that he had gifted him a car. He clarified that the vehicle was a legal entitlement provided by the Osun State Government under a law enacted by the House of Assembly, stipulating that former governors should have their vehicles changed every four years. He lamented the governor's alleged misinformation, emphasizing that his security and other entitlements are also covered by state law.
