‘Will PM Modi Visit DU Again and Explain?’ Abhijeet Dipke Attacks Centre After Delhi Student Housing Collapse

“Will the PM visit DU again and explain how did this happen?” Abhijeet Dipke asked after a student accommodation building collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan. Around 40 to 50 students were suspected to be trapped under the rubble, while the number of casualties remained unknown.

Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, said students should not have to study or live in unsafe buildings. He contrasted the collapse with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Delhi University the previous day, saying Modi had delivered a political speech and used the term “Dimagi Naxal” while saying little about the condition of educational infrastructure.

“Students deserve safe classrooms, safe hostels and basic dignity,” Dipke said. He also connected the incident to wider concerns about neglect, saying Adivasi students were dying in tribal areas because of inadequate care and support, while students in the national capital were also unsafe.

AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said about 30 to 40 students were feared trapped. He alleged that corruption surrounding transfers of executive engineers in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s building department meant such collapses would continue. Bhardwaj compared the incident with a previous building collapse in Saket and said audits would again lead to money being taken from businesses without changing conditions.

Another building collapse in Satya Niketan, it was a PG accommodation of South Campus college students for DU. Around 30-40 students are feared to be under the debris.

The Congress called the collapse “extremely unfortunate” and said most residents were Delhi University students. It said NSUI members were assisting at the site and urged the government to conduct relief and rescue operations “on a war footing.” Rescue teams from the DDMA, NDRF, Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, MCD, CTS and Civil Defence were involved. Around six to seven students had been rescued as the operation continued.

We appeal to the government to carry out relief and rescue operations at a war footing, and to quickly extricate the students and people trapped under the debris.
