Wingo Announces New Direct Valencia-Bogotá Route Starting July 14

Colombian airline Wingo is set to expand its services between Venezuela and Colombia with the introduction of a new direct route connecting Valencia and Bogotá. Beginning July 14, the airline will offer three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, with base fares starting at $105 USD per leg, inclusive of all taxes and fees. This move is expected to further stimulate travel and provide more affordable options for passengers navigating the route.

Wingo highlighted its competitive pricing strategy, noting that its fares between Venezuela and Colombia are approximately 20% lower than those of other operators. This approach not only makes air travel more accessible but also contributes to the overall dynamism of the market. Since commencing operations between the two countries in 2017, Wingo has facilitated the travel of over 350,000 passengers, demonstrating a sustained demand for its services. In 2023 alone, the airline transported 98,388 passengers on its Venezuela-Colombia routes.

This new Valencia-Bogotá route complements Wingo's existing services, including a direct flight between Medellín and Caracas launched in March, which operates three times weekly. The Bogotá-Caracas route maintains a daily frequency. The expansion aligns with Venezuela's expressed interest in opening new air routes, particularly under the administration of Delcy Rodríguez.

The resumption and expansion of air travel between Venezuela and Colombia, and even the U.S. (as evidenced by the recent American Airlines flight to Maiquetía), signal a gradual normalization of relations and increased connectivity. For Wingo, this represents a strategic opportunity to solidify its position as a key low-cost carrier in the region, catering to a significant demand for travel between these neighboring nations.
