WistrON Chairman: Taiwan's AI Industry Poised to Be Globally Irreplaceable

WistrON Chairman Lin Chien-ming believes Taiwan's AI industry is poised to become a globally irreplaceable power in the coming years. He highlighted the island's comprehensive supply chain, from semiconductors to system integration and manufacturing, as a key competitive advantage.

AI industry in the future years is very important to Taiwan. Taiwan has the opportunity to rely on the complete supply chain advantages from semiconductors to system integration, to build the AI industry into an 'irreplaceable' important force in the world.

Lin announced that WistrON will continue to expand its computing center infrastructure. These centers will not only support the company's internal AI computing needs but also provide services to regional and Taiwanese businesses. The company aims to collaborate with partners to drive Taiwan's AI development.

In a significant move to bolster AI capabilities, WistrON's board approved a NT$3.967 billion investment to establish an AI computing center at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University's Tainan campus. This center will support WistrON's AI operations and donate computing resources to AI research and educational programs.

WistrON is planning its computing centers, which will provide services to regional and Taiwanese enterprises in the future, in addition to internal use.

Furthermore, WistrON is planning substantial capital expenditures for facility expansion. This includes NT$2 billion for its Zhubei plant and NT$8.5 billion for its Kaohsiung plant in Taiwan, primarily for acquiring new machinery. In the US, the company will invest US$23 million and US$30 million in its subsidiaries Wistron InfoComm Corporation and SMS Infocomm Corporation, respectively, to support AI business growth. An additional US$40 million will be invested in Wistron Property Co., Ltd. in Vietnam.
