Woman arrested again for drug use after being hit by taxi while high

A 20-something woman has been arrested again for drug offenses, a mere month after a highly publicized incident where she was found lying on a street in Gangnam, Seoul, and was hit by a passing taxi while under the influence of methamphetamine.

Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit announced on May 28 that they had arrested and transferred the suspect, identified only as 'A', to the prosecution on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act. According to the investigation, 'A' and another individual, 'B', allegedly purchased 1 gram of methamphetamine via a messenger app in July. They are accused of dividing and using the drug multiple times in their home in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu.

Further investigation revealed that 'A' had purchased and used methamphetamine twice more in August using the same method. This occurred while she was already under investigation without detention for her previous offense. In June, 'A' was apprehended by police after being hit by a taxi on a side street in Gangnam. She reportedly did not complain of pain and tested positive for methamphetamine in a preliminary drug test. Police confiscated methamphetamine and syringes from her residence and confirmed 'B's' involvement in the drug use.

The arrest video released by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency at the time of 'A's' first arrest became a key clue in the current investigation. While investigating a Telegram channel selling methamphetamine, police compared CCTV footage from the crime scene with the released video, leading to the identification of 'A'. She was arrested on August 19, and an arrest warrant was issued by the Seoul Central District Court on August 21, citing flight risk. 'B' was sent to the prosecution without detention.
