Woman arrested for drugging men with sleeping pills to steal money

A disturbing crime wave targeting men met through matchmaking services and acquaintances has led to the arrest of a woman in her 20s, identified as Ms. Go. The suspect is accused of a calculated scheme involving drugging her victims with sleeping pills to incapacitate them before stealing significant amounts of money from their bank accounts. The latest incident, reported on April 28, involved Ms. Go allegedly stealing approximately 9.9 million won from a man she had been cohabiting with for a month in Uijeongbu.

Following the victim's report of feeling unwell upon waking, police apprehended Ms. Go at the scene. Subsequent investigations have uncovered a pattern of similar offenses dating back to December. Reports indicate that Ms. Go has been involved in at least four such incidents across Seoul's Yongsan, Yangcheon, and Jungnang districts, with the total amount stolen reaching an estimated 48.9 million won. The victims reportedly met Ms. Go through marriage information companies or mutual acquaintances and were unaware they had been drugged.

Adding a chilling detail, the drug used in the recent incident has been identified as a benzodiazepine-class psychotropic substance, the same type allegedly used in a notorious 'motel murder' case. While Ms. Go claims the victim ingested the medication himself, citing anxiety treatment, police are focusing on the likelihood that she intentionally targeted the men for financial gain. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of her criminal activities and whether accomplices were involved.
