World Nomad Games 2026: Kazakhstan takes first place in team standings

Kazakhstan took first place in the team standings at the Sixth World Nomad Games after a technical difference in medal counting was resolved, Kyrgyz presidential press secretary Askat Alagözov said.

The organizing committee decided to count the medals won by each of three Kazakh athletes separately. That decision put Kazakhstan at the top of the overall standings. Alagözov congratulated the Kazakh team on its victory.

He said the Games concluded at a high level and became a major sporting celebration. Kyrgyz and Kazakh teams performed strongly in kok-boru and kokpar, he said, demonstrating again that rivalry remained on the field. There were also no problems among fans from the two countries.

Alagözov said Kyrgyz athletes showed their strength and skill достойно at the Games. He added that medal totals were only one part of sport, while the event's biggest achievement was the respectful competition and the renewed demonstration of solidarity between the two brotherly peoples.

The Games opened at Bishkek Arena on Aug. 31. The main sporting, cultural and scientific events then continued in the Issyk-Kul region. The kokpar and kok-boru finals took place in Cholpon-Ata on Sept. 6, followed by the closing ceremony that evening.
