Wrestler Yılmaz rearrested over alleged assault on Elvan

An investigation into the alleged assault of champion wrestler Serhat Elvan has led to the rearrest of former champion Şaban Yılmaz. The incident reportedly occurred on August 8 at a gas station in Samsun's Vezirköprü district. Elvan was traveling to compete in the 20th Samsun Vezirköprü Kunduz Oil Wrestling festival, the sixth stage of the Turkish Oil Wrestling League.

According to reports, the altercation began when Elvan allegedly cursed at Yılmaz. The dispute quickly escalated into a physical fight, with Yılmaz and his nephews, identified as Ö.Y. and E.Y., allegedly beating Elvan. Bystanders intervened to end the fight, which was recorded by the gas station's security cameras.

Following Elvan's complaint, Yılmaz and the two other suspects were initially detained. After processing, they were brought before the court. Despite prosecutors seeking their arrest, the court released the three suspects under judicial control. However, the Vezirköprü Chief Public Prosecutor's Office appealed this decision. Consequently, a warrant for their arrest was issued, and Yılmaz and E.Y. were taken into custody for a second time by gendarmerie teams.
