Wrocław. Ukrainian, 18, arrested for stabbing Polish woman

An 18-year-old Ukrainian citizen is facing attempted murder charges in Wrocław, Poland, after allegedly stabbing a 30-year-old Polish woman multiple times.

The court shared our position that in this case, there is a fear that the suspect, who does not have a permanent place of residence, may flee. The act he committed is punishable by a high penalty.

The incident occurred Saturday around 9 p.m. on Gagarina Street. Police apprehended the suspect shortly after the attack. The woman sustained severe injuries to her neck and chest and was initially hospitalized in life-threatening condition. She has since been released from the hospital. Authorities stated that the victim and the alleged assailant did not know each other.

The suspect has not admitted to committing the act he is accused of and has refused to provide explanations.

During a court hearing, prosecutors requested and were granted a three-month pre-trial detention for the suspect. The court agreed with the prosecution's argument that the suspect, who lacks a permanent residence, poses a flight risk, and the severity of the alleged crime warrants detention. The 18-year-old faces a potential life sentence if convicted.

The suspect has pleaded not guilty to the charges and has refused to provide any explanation for his actions. The Ukrainian Consulate General in Wrocław has issued a statement condemning all acts of violence and emphasizing that perpetrators must be held accountable under Polish law.
