Wu Tsung-hsien Registers for Yilan Magistrate Race With His Father at His Side

Wu Tsung-hsien registered his candidacy for Yilan County magistrate with his elderly father walking beside him, a family display that the campaign presented as a statement about public service.

The Kuomintang candidate walked from the county council plaza to the election commission with local party officials and supporters, including legislator Hung Meng-kai. His father insisted on accompanying him throughout the registration, joining the group as it gathered before the walk.

Wu said his father had taught him from childhood to remain loyal to the country and filial to his parents. He described those lessons as the foundation of his involvement in public affairs. His father, Wu added, understood his character and hoped he would govern with county residents first.

Wu said a future administration would follow an “altruistic” principle and turn responsibility for urgent public needs into visible action. He highlighted care for older people as a government duty and said a sound childcare environment would help build Taiwan’s strength over the next 30 years while easing the burden on young families.

With the year-end election approaching, Wu said his campaign would proceed step by step and return to the principle of choosing capable public officials. If elected, he said he would focus on Yilan’s three core problems: transport, the economy and flooding.
