X completely rebuilds Android app for speed and future features

The X platform has officially released a completely rebuilt Android application, developed from the ground up over the past year. This significant overhaul promises enhanced speed, smoother navigation, and improved notification systems, addressing previous criticisms that the Android version lagged behind its iOS counterpart.

Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X, described the project as one of the company's largest engineering undertakings. The new application is engineered for greater reliability and, crucially, to accelerate the development and deployment of new features. This strategic move aims to bolster X's presence in the global market, where Android remains the dominant mobile operating system.

Development for the new app began nearly a year ago, with a dedicated "dream team" focused on revamping the user experience. The company noted a significant surge in Android downloads last October, underscoring the priority placed on this rebuild. Despite the improvements, Bier acknowledged ongoing work to optimize performance on older Android devices and integrate features like Spaces, X's live audio function.

Looking ahead, X plans to roll out several new features to the Android app, including a new video editor, a video reaction feature, cashtags, and custom timelines. Users can update to the latest version through the Google Play Store.
