Yellow alert issued for heavy rain and hail in nine Mexico City boroughs

Mexico City's Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection has activated a yellow alert for heavy rains and potential hail across nine of the capital's boroughs. The warning is in effect for Friday afternoon and evening, July 24, as forecasts predict rainfall between 15 and 29 millimeters.

The affected areas include Álvaro Obregón, Benito Juárez, Cuauhtémoc, Cuajimalpa, Gustavo A. Madero, Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, Miguel Hidalgo, and Venustiano Carranza. Residents in these zones are advised to be prepared for the downpour, which is expected to last until 8:00 PM.

The Secretariat reminded the public of the dangers associated with heavy rainfall, such as slippery conditions for pedestrians, potential damage to roofs and gutters, and reduced visibility on roadways. To mitigate these risks, citizens are urged to clear drains and sewers to prevent water accumulation, avoid walking on steep slopes where the ground could become unstable, and ensure pets are kept in safer areas.

This alert comes as the city prepares for a potentially significant weather event, emphasizing the importance of staying informed and taking necessary precautions to ensure safety during the forecasted precipitation.
