Yemen's Houthis claim drone strike on Saudi Aramco refinery in Jizan

Yemen's Houthi rebels announced on Saturday that they successfully targeted Saudi Arabia's Aramco oil refinery in Jizan with a drone strike. Yahya Saree, the group's spokesperson for war affairs, asserted that the strike was precise and carried out in response to Saudi Arabia's recent military actions in northwestern Yemen.

This claim follows a statement from the UN Security Council, which condemned the Iran-backed Houthi rebels' attacks against Saudi Arabia and its commercial vessels. The council warned that these actions jeopardize regional security and the freedom of navigation.

The conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis has intensified in recent weeks. Air strikes targeting the Houthi-controlled Yemeni capital, Sanaa, occurred just weeks prior. The Houthis have also conducted attacks on several Saudi ships, forcing them to alter course. In the days leading up to Saturday's announcement, Houthi attacks reportedly struck targets directly within Saudi Arabia, injuring at least 11 people, and also caused civilian casualties in Yemen's Marib province.
