Yendi MCE urges youth to seize job opportunities, warns against irregular migration

Mr. Muniru Sugri, the Municipal Chief Executive for Yendi in Ghana's Northern Region, has called on the local youth to actively pursue and benefit from government employment initiatives. He emphasized that these programs offer crucial opportunities for self-improvement and building a secure future.

Sugri's remarks came during a day-long sensitization training session organized by the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) in Yendi. The event, part of a national campaign, focused on educating young Ghanaians about the perils of irregular migration. Participants from various youth groups received information on employment opportunities provided by government schemes and the significant risks tied to migrating through unofficial channels.

The training specifically aimed to equip young individuals with the necessary information, knowledge, and skills to pursue overseas employment through safe and regulated means. Officials highlighted dangers such as human trafficking, exploitation, abuse, and financial loss, which are common among those who travel to Europe via unapproved routes.

"The youth are the future leaders of this country, so they must take government interventions seriously. We will continue to roll out more initiatives to engage them," Sugri stated, urging the youth to take government support seriously. He also appealed to the YEA and the Ghana Immigration Service to maintain their engagement efforts to ensure more young people benefit from such vital training.

Deputy Superintendent of Immigration, Hajia Rafiatu Mohammed, who heads the Migration Information Centre in Tamale, further cautioned the youth against traveling without proper documentation. She advised against using fake travel documents and dealing with unapproved agencies, warning that such actions could lead to arrest, deportation, and severe exploitation. Both officials stressed the importance of following appropriate procedures for seeking employment opportunities, both within Ghana and abroad.
