Yeraldine Bonilla leads peace and security meeting in Mazatlán; actions to reinforce safety agreed

Interim Governor Yeraldine Bonilla Valverde presided over a critical security meeting in Mazatlán, Mexico, bringing together military, naval, air force, and state and municipal authorities. The gathering, held at the Third Military Region headquarters, aimed to address and reinforce security strategies in the port city and throughout the state of Sinaloa.

The meeting comes in response to a noticeable increase in violence in Mazatlán over the past two weeks. Reports indicate a wave of murders, including those of four women and a local artist, Darcy “N,” as well as attacks on businesses and homes involving explosive devices. This escalation prompted calls for a state security meeting to redefine anti-crime actions.

Officials confirmed that significant measures are being implemented to bolster security. Two thousand additional security personnel have been deployed to the southern zone of the state. Furthermore, checkpoints will be established at the entrances and exits of Mazatlán as part of the new strategies. The Secretary of Public Security, Sinuhe Téllez López, stated that with these reinforcements, a total of five thousand security elements are now stationed in southern Sinaloa.

Beyond Mazatlán, security efforts will extend to the municipalities of Concordia, Escuinapa, and El Rosario. Authorities also emphasized their commitment to ensuring safe passage on federal and state highways, aiming to protect both residents and the growing number of tourists visiting the state's attractions. The governor highlighted that the meeting facilitated the launch of joint initiatives to enhance public safety.

The work of the three levels of government will continue, so security checkpoints will be placed at the entrances and exits of Mazatlán, and preventive actions will be reinforced in the territories of the southern municipalities of Concordia, Escuinapa, and El Rosario.
