Young Footballer (18) Dies in Traffic Accident; Clubs Mourn Loss

The local football community is mourning the loss of 18-year-old Matija Dražetić, a promising young player who tragically died in a severe traffic accident on Friday night. Dražetić, who had recently moved to NK Hrvatski dragovoljac from NK Kutjevo, was remembered by both clubs for his dedication, positive attitude, and commitment.

NK Kutjevo, where Dražetić spent several years from 2017, highlighted his exemplary conduct, noting he was a polite, hardworking, and responsible young man who consistently fulfilled his obligations. "Matija will remain in our memory as a decent, hardworking, and responsible young man who regularly fulfilled his obligations to the club, coaches, and teammates," the club stated. They added that he was a model of sportsmanship and a welcome presence in their football school.

NK Hrvatski dragovoljac also extended their condolences, describing Dražetić as a cheerful, smiling individual whose kindness, modesty, and positive energy left a mark wherever he went. The club emphasized his loyalty, recalling how he continued to support his teammates even when sidelined by a knee injury. "He will forever remain a part of the NK Hrvatski dragovoljac family," they said.

The fatal accident occurred around 11:30 p.m. between Frkljevci and Zagrađe. Reports indicate the car Dražetić was traveling in veered off the road for reasons yet to be determined, striking a concrete driveway. Dražetić was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Two friends in the car sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital. Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
