Yucatan Police Chief Involved in Car Accident, Witnesses Claim Intoxication

The director of the Municipal Police in Seyé, Yucatán, Rodrigo Andrés Reyes Rivas, was involved in a car accident on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred on the road leading out of Seyé, near the junction with the Mérida-Cancún highway.

Initial reports suggest that a gray pickup truck was being driven erratically before it veered off the asphalt. Witnesses stated the vehicle nearly crashed multiple times before the driver lost control. Following the accident, the police chief reportedly exited the vehicle, allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

Municipal police officers arrived at the scene shortly after the crash. They reportedly implemented measures to manage traffic flow. Paramedics also responded to the incident. However, officers were observed attempting to conceal the identity of the driver, who appeared to be alone in the vehicle.

The Seyé City Council has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident. The local newspaper El Universal reported on the event, noting the alleged intoxication of the police director and the subsequent actions by officers to obscure his identity.
