Yucatan prepares for 2027 election as more than 121,000 voters must renew INE cards

Yucatan is beginning preparations for the 2027 elections, with the National Electoral Institute urging 121,554 residents to renew their voter cards before they lose access to the nominal voter list.

Of those voters, 14,348 cards expired in 2025 and another 107,206 will become invalid during this year. The deadline for renewal is Jan. 25, 2027. The INE is encouraging residents to complete the process early so they can remain eligible to vote.

Yucatan will renew 147 elected positions in next year's elections. The posts include the state's six federal lower-house seats elected by majority vote, all 35 positions in the state Congress and the municipal governments of the state's 106 municipalities for the 2027-2030 term.

The INE's local council in Yucatan must be installed by Sept. 30, while the country's 300 district councils have until Nov. 30 to be formally established. Since Sept. 1, the electoral authority has operated its 2026-27 intensive annual campaign to update the electoral register and nominal voter list. The campaign also covers address changes, corrections, replacement cards for theft or loss, and registration of new voters.

Yucatan currently has 1,842,132 people on the electoral register and 1,816,737 on the nominal voter list.
