Yunlin's Jianshan Activity Center to Undergo Renovation, Expand Elderly Care Services

The Jianshan Community Activity Center in Shuilin Township, Yunlin County, a vital hub for local residents, is finally set to receive much-needed renovations after nearly 50 years of service. The aging facility, built in 1978, has fallen into disrepair, with significant issues like roof leaks, cracked walls, and inadequate, shared restroom facilities plaguing the building.

Recognizing the urgency, the township office has secured approximately NT$5.85 million from the county government for comprehensive repairs. These upgrades will focus on reinforcing the building's structure, improving waterproofing, renovating restrooms to include accessible facilities, and enhancing the overall interior space. The goal is not just cosmetic; it's about creating a safer, more functional environment for the community.

County Magistrate Chang Li-shan and Social Affairs Department Director Lin Wen-chih have personally inspected the site, emphasizing the need for separate male and female restrooms and the creation of more accessible spaces for the elderly and those with mobility issues. The plan also involves reconfiguring the first floor to expand activity areas, making it more conducive for wheelchair users and social gatherings.

This renovation project is more than just a facelift; it's an investment in the well-being of Yunlin's seniors. The expanded long-term care services, including the planned senior canteen and community care stations, will provide essential support and social engagement opportunities. As Acting Township Mayor Chang Tung-kai stated, the center is a crucial gathering point, and these improvements will ensure it continues to serve the community effectively for years to come.
