Zagreb police officer suspended amid investigation into suspected car theft

A police officer in Zagreb has been suspended from duty and faces disciplinary proceedings after allegedly coming into possession of a car that is reportedly sought in connection with a criminal offense in Slovenia. Colleagues suspect the officer obtained the vehicle, which bears Slovenian license plates, without proper documentation of ownership.

Authorities are investigating the officer for the crime of concealment. It is suspected that he brought the car to the Dugo Selo area, parked it, and left it there, knowing or having reason to know that the vehicle was being sought. Investigators believe his intention was to unlawfully appropriate the car for himself.

Following the criminal investigation, a criminal complaint has been filed against the suspect with the Municipal State Attorney's Office in Zagreb. He has since been handed over to a detention supervisor. The incident will also have consequences for his status within the police force. The head of the Zagreb Police Department issued a decision suspending him from service due to strong suspicion of committing a serious breach of official duty.
