Zalazar Scores on Debut, But Sporting Draws 2-2 with Estrela

Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Zalazar made an immediate impact in his official debut for Sporting CP, contributing a goal and an assist in their opening Liga Portugal match against Estrela da Amadora. However, his efforts were not enough to secure a victory, as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Zalazar, who joined Sporting from Braga this season, opened the scoring in the 46th minute with a low shot. He then extended Sporting's lead in the 59th minute by setting up Fotis Ioannidis for the second goal. The team appeared to be in control, leading 2-0.

Estrela da Amadora mounted a comeback in the latter stages of the match. Leandro Antonetti, a player with a past at Lugo and Sevilla, reduced the deficit in the 72nd minute with a counter-attack goal. Beni Souza then equalized for Estrela in the 84th minute, with goalkeeper Rui Silva unable to prevent the ball from crossing the line.

The opening day of Liga Portugal continues with other notable matches. Reigning champions Porto will host the club owned by Vinícius Júnior, Alverca, while Benfica faces Académico de Viseu behind closed doors due to a sanction.
