Zelenskyy Awards Lithuanian President Order of Liberty Amid Independence Day Celebrations

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has bestowed the prestigious Order of Liberty upon Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, recognizing Lithuania's steadfast support for Ukraine. President Nausėda accepted the honor, stating it represents the collective contribution of all Lithuanian people for their persistent backing of Ukraine's struggle.

During a visit to Ukraine, President Nausėda also paid tribute to fallen Ukrainian defenders at the National Military Memorial Cemetery. He laid a wreath and flowers, honoring those who sacrificed their lives for Ukraine's freedom, independence, and territorial integrity. The Lithuanian president later attended Ukraine's Independence Day anniversary commemoration in Kyiv.

At the event, President Zelenskyy addressed the attendees, and distinguished Ukrainians and international leaders were honored. A video presentation highlighted the international community's support for Ukraine, accompanied by a drone performance. President Nausėda underscored the significance of the 35th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, occurring amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia. He asserted that the Ukrainian people's resistance is not only a defense of their nation but also a fight for a rules-based international order where borders cannot be altered by force.

Lithuania reiterated its commitment to upholding Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, unequivocally rejecting Russia's occupation and annexation of Ukrainian territories. President Nausėda also stressed the critical need for sustained military, humanitarian, and financial aid to Ukraine. He called for accountability for Russia's aggression and war crimes, and for the return of prisoners of war and forcibly deported individuals to Ukraine.
