Zhao Jianming clarifies divorce dispute, claims he was 'forced to divorce'

Zhao Jianming has addressed the controversy surrounding his divorce from Chen Hsing-yu, daughter of former President Chen Shui-bian, asserting that he was "forced to divorce."

Zhao stated that Chen Hsing-yu initiated the divorce proceedings. He recalled that their original plan was to divorce in June, but Chen had suggested an earlier date in April or May. Ultimately, the divorce was finalized in June. Zhao expressed bewilderment at Chen's recent comments suggesting he still wished to reconcile, finding them "a bit inexplicable."

When asked about the reasons for their divorce, Zhao declined to comment, citing the private nature of family affairs. He emphasized his respect for Chen's statements but regretted the manner and content of her remarks. "The marriage is over, please let yourself and others go," he urged, adding that there was no need to "demonize others to elevate yourself," especially as he is the father of their children.
