Zhubei City Upgrades Public Restrooms, Enhancing Urban Comfort and Quality

Zhubei City in Taiwan's Hsinchu County is transforming its public restrooms, investing over NT$7.1 million to renovate facilities in Xinlun, Zhuren, and Shengsuo parks. The initiative aims to elevate the quality of public amenities, reflecting a "quality publicization" approach to urban governance.

Recent visitors have praised the new restrooms, with one citizen remarking that using them feels "luxurious." Zhubei Mayor Zheng Chaofang emphasized that the renovations were based on practical assessments and public feedback, ensuring each restroom meets specific user needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all design. The project prioritizes improved lighting, safety, and comfort, tackling past problems of dimness and disrepair.

Notable upgrades include the introduction of a dedicated children's restroom at Xinlun Park, designed with child-sized facilities and accessible layouts. Zhuren Park's restroom now features a wooden lattice entrance for enhanced privacy and natural light, while Shengsuo Park's facility is integrated into the landscape. Mayor Zheng highlighted that while restrooms may not be prominent structures, they are crucial public services that visibly represent a city's civilization and quality of life.

Following these initial renovations, Zhubei City plans to upgrade restrooms in Xianfu, Fuxing, and Shuizhen parks. The goal is to revitalize neglected spaces into comfortable, safe, and functional public areas, demonstrating a commitment to improving everyday urban experiences.
