Zimbabwe boat capsizes on Lake Kariba, killing 44

A tragic accident unfolded on Zimbabwe's Lake Kariba when a boat carrying 119 passengers, including children, capsized. Authorities confirmed 44 people died, while 77 were rescued. The vessel, operated by a government rural development agency, was traveling between Kariba and Chalala when it overturned during severe weather.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared a state of disaster following the incident. Rescue efforts were complicated by the ongoing bad weather, which prevented smaller boats from reaching the scene. Survivors were taken to Long Island in the middle of the lake, with dive units deployed to aid in the search for victims.
