Zimbabwe Sets 2026 Winter Wheat Producer Price to Boost Production

Zimbabwe's government has taken a significant step to bolster its agricultural sector by announcing an incentive producer price of US$524.56 per metric tonne for the 2026 winter wheat season. This strategic move, confirmed by the Grain Marketing Board (GMB), is designed to encourage farmers to ramp up production of this vital crop.

Winter wheat has been identified as a strategic crop for Zimbabwe, with authorities actively promoting higher yields in recent years. The primary objectives are to curb the nation's reliance on wheat imports and bolster overall food security. The newly announced price provides farmers with much-needed clarity, enabling them to plan their input purchases and production costs with greater certainty as they prepare for the upcoming planting season.

Dr. Edson Badarai, CEO of the GMB, highlighted that the pricing model was established through extensive consultations with key stakeholders in the agricultural industry.
