19 students poisoned after eating free school meals in Blora, Indonesia

A mass food poisoning incident has affected 19 students at SDN Sendangrejo in Blora, Indonesia, following the consumption of free nutritious meals (MBG) provided by SPPG Bogowati on Monday, July 20, 2026. The students, ranging from third to sixth grade, exhibited symptoms and were promptly taken to the Ngawen Community Health Center.

Blora Regent Arief Rohman confirmed that all affected students have been discharged and are recovering well, with no further symptoms reported as of Tuesday, July 21. The meals provided included white rice, yellow seasoned eggs, stir-fried beans, carrots, and corn shoots, along with grapes and packaged milk. Initial reports suggest improper storage of the milk may have contributed to the incident.

Already all returned home and are being monitored until today, no more symptoms have appeared.

In response, SPPG Bogowati, managed by the Yayasan Mitra Cendikia Waskita, has temporarily suspended its operations. The regional government and the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) are actively investigating the exact cause of the poisoning. Prima Yosephine Berliana Tumiur Hutapea, Deputy for Systems and Governance at BGN, stated that the agency will collaborate with the Ministry of Health and local health authorities to understand the incident and improve future MBG program management.
