2027: Tinubu directs Deputy Speaker to take charge of Abia APC

In a significant political maneuver ahead of the 2027 general elections, Deputy Speaker of Nigeria's House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has been tasked with overseeing the affairs of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State. This directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ensures that the highest-ranking political office holder takes charge of party structures and mobilization efforts in states where the APC does not have a governor.

Kalu, who disclosed the President's reaffirmation of this directive, explained that this model strategically places governors at the helm of party matters in APC-controlled states, while figures like the Deputy Speaker assume leadership in opposition-held territories. This approach, Kalu noted, has been consistently applied across various party congresses, significantly bolstering unity within the Abia APC.
