44 Flood Victims in Bandar Baharu Relocate to Evacuation Center

In the district of Bandar Baharu, the persistent heavy rains have led to a significant flood event, forcing 44 residents from 12 families to seek refuge at the Dewan Keda Sungai Tengas temporary evacuation center (PPS). The activation of the PPS late yesterday evening underscores the severity of the situation, as several low-lying villages found themselves submerged under rising waters.

The affected areas include Kampung Sungai Tengas, Kampung Air Itam Dalam, Kampung Cherok Meranti, Kampung Paya Salak, and Kampung Batu Hampar. These communities, situated in low-lying areas, bore the brunt of the downpour that began in the afternoon, causing the Sungai Terunsing river to swell to dangerous levels. The swift action by the District Civil Defence Officer, Lieutenant (PA) Abdul Rahim Khairuddin, in activating the PPS was crucial in ensuring the safety of the displaced residents.
