84 Former Opposition Members Join UMNO in Pasir Salak

In a significant political shift in Pasir Salak, 84 former members and supporters from PKR, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), and Pas have officially joined UMNO. The new members submitted their membership forms to Mohd. Nazari Sabran, the Deputy Chief of UMNO's Pasir Salak division.

Mohd. Nazari welcomed the move, stating it demonstrates UMNO's renewed public trust, especially within the Sungai Manik state constituency. "Thank God, this is a very positive development for UMNO in Sungai Manik. This situation shows that UMNO is increasingly trusted and capable of winning back the hearts of the people ahead of the upcoming election," he remarked during the joining ceremony.

Among the new UMNO members is Muhd. Safie Hamzah, 54, a former PKR supporter. He explained that his decision to join UMNO was voluntary, stemming from deep disappointment with the leadership of his previous party. Safie cited that various issues he raised were not adequately addressed by party leaders, and his repeated requests for assistance, including food aid, were consistently denied.

The decision was made because we have lost faith in the party and the existing leadership. This decision was also made voluntarily without being influenced or pressured by any party and it is our right to practice the principle of democracy.

Safie, who had been a PKR member since the 14th General Election and previously served as the Ketua Ranting (Branch Chief) for Parit 3A, Sungai Manik, noted that 67 PKR members from the Pasir Salak branch also resigned from their positions. They cited a loss of faith in the party and its current leadership. The group affirmed their decision was made freely and in accordance with democratic principles, expressing support for UMNO's Pasir Salak leadership, particularly Mohd. Nazari Sabran. In addition to the PKR members, five former Pas members and 12 former Bersatu members also joined UMNO, bringing the total to 84.
