Accord Party backs Abia gov for second term, assures alliance

In a significant political development in Abia State, the Accord Party has officially thrown its weight behind the re-election bid of Governor Alex Otti. National Chairman of the Accord Party, Professor Christopher Imumolen, led a delegation to Nvosi, the governor's hometown, to express their endorsement and pledge their party's full cooperation in ensuring Otti secures a second term in 2027. This move signals a broader realignment in the state's political landscape, with opposition parties acknowledging and supporting what they deem as good governance.

Professor Imumolen articulated a philosophy that transcends partisan divides, emphasizing that development and progress should be recognized and supported, regardless of political affiliation. He commended Governor Otti's performance, stating that the opposition's role is not solely to criticize but also to appreciate effective leadership. This sentiment was echoed by the National Secretary of the Accord Party, Malam Mukhtar Djungo, who assured Governor Otti that the party would not field any governorship candidate in Abia in 2027. Instead, the party's directive is for its state executive to collaborate with the Labour Party to advance the interests of Abia's people and ensure the continuity of Otti's developmental agenda.

So we are here today to appreciate the Governor, to thank him for what he is doing, and to also stand with him. We know the election is drawing closer, and we are saying that if he has done this much, we believe that as a party, we should stand with him, we should fight with him, and ensure that there is continuity, even after 2027.

The endorsement was also virtually acknowledged by the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, who lauded Professor Imumolen's courage to speak truthfully and appreciate good governance. She noted the rarity of such bipartisan appreciation in Nigerian politics, where opposition often criticizes for the sake of it. This narrative from the Accord Party's leadership, particularly their willingness to set aside their own candidacy to support a performing incumbent, presents a unique angle.
