Accord Party disowns presidential candidate for endorsing rival in Osun election

The Accord Party has officially distanced itself from its former presidential candidate, Chris Imumolen, following his public endorsement of Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State. The party's national chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, issued a statement clarifying that Imumolen's appearance at an APC rally in Osogbo does not reflect the Accord Party's stance.

Imumolen is a political hireling and hustler seeking stomach infrastructure and has no political structure that will favour his preferred candidate in the election.

Mgbudem emphasized that the Accord Party operates as a unified entity with a single leadership recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He dismissed any claims of factional leadership as "pure delusion." The national chairman further characterized Imumolen as a "political hireling and hustler" whose actions are driven by personal gain rather than any genuine political structure or support.

Osun remains a Accord’s stronghold, noting that the electorate stand firmly with Adeleke ahead of the governorship election.

The Accord Party asserted its strong position in Osun State, declaring it a party stronghold. Mgbudem expressed confidence that the electorate remains firmly behind Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Accord Party, predicting an overwhelming victory in the upcoming governorship election. "Osun State is an Accord stronghold; the people are in one accord with Gov. Ademola Adeleke and will overwhelmingly vote for the party on Saturday, Aug.15," he stated.

Mgbudem also called for neutrality and professionalism from INEC and security agencies during the election. He urged international observers to monitor the process closely and for sanctions to be imposed on anyone attempting to undermine democracy. The party hopes the Osun governorship election will set a new national standard for electoral conduct in Nigeria.
