Aleena Satisfied With Silver in Debut Commonwealth Games Appearance

Aleena Ahmad Nawawi expressed contentment with her silver medal in her first Commonwealth Games appearance, despite falling short of a gold in the women's lawn bowls doubles. Competing alongside Syafiqa Haidar Afif Abdul Rahman, Aleena acknowledged their 0.5-1.5 defeat to England's Amy Pharaoh and Sian Honnor in the final at the Scottish Event Campus. "Personally, I am grateful. Even though we lost in the final, at least my first Commonwealth Games appearance ended with a silver medal. Alhamdulillah," Aleena stated. She reflected that a slight weakness might have stemmed from her lead position, but she conceded that the English pair played exceptionally well and deserved the victory.

Aleena also noted a significant improvement in her performance compared to previous tournaments, attributing it to growing synergy with her partner Syafiqa. "I feel my performance is getting better than before. Syafiqa has helped me a lot to keep improving and give my best performance in every match," Aleena said. She further emphasized her gratitude for partnering with Syafiqa, describing her as a calm player whose composure was instrumental in their journey to the final.

In a parallel achievement, Malaysia's Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple made history by becoming the first Malaysian to win a medal in the men's singles lawn bowls event at the Commonwealth Games, also securing a silver. He lost 2-0 to England's Sam Tolchard in the gold medal match. Despite the final loss, Izzat's progression to the final was enough to etch his name in the Malaysian record books for the sport.
