Anglican Church Suspends Anambra Priest Over Alleged Staged Miracles

The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has taken decisive action by suspending Reverend Ifunaya Maduka, Vicar of St. Paul’s Parish in Nteje, Anambra State. This stern measure, a six-month suspension without salary, stems from grave allegations of fake miracles and staged prophecies, practices deemed grossly unbecoming of an ordained priest.

Greetings in the name of our risen Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. It has come to our attention, with deep sadness and grave concern, that you have been involved in practices grossly unbecoming of an ordained Priest of the Anglican Church.

Led by Bishop Owen Nwokolo of the Niger Diocese, the church's investigation uncovered credible reports suggesting that Maduka orchestrated "arranged and manipulated" prophetic sessions. These performances allegedly involved individuals known to him, who were reportedly paid to participate, all while being presented as genuine divine interventions. Such deceitful practices undermine the sanctity of faith and the trust placed in religious leaders.

Specifically, credible and verifiable reports have been brought before us alleging that you engaged in arranged and manipulated prophecies by involving persons whom you induced or paid for that purpose, while presenting such acts as genuine prophetic manifestations from God.

Upon confrontation with compelling evidence, Reverend Maduka reportedly confessed to his involvement in these unholy acts. This admission is particularly disheartening, given previous commendations of his knowledge and conduct. The church's statement highlights the deep disappointment and grave concern over these revelations, emphasizing that such actions are wholly inconsistent with the calling of a minister of the Gospel and capable of amounting to obtaining money under false pretenses.
