Auctioned land plot 'non-existent': Police investigate irregularities

A baffling case has emerged in Quang Ngai province, where a citizen successfully bid on and won a plot of land in an auction, only to find that the plot simply does not exist on the ground. This bizarre situation has prompted an investigation by the provincial police, who are looking into what appears to be a significant failure in the state's land management system. The incident raises serious questions about the integrity of land auctions and the accuracy of official records.

Initial findings by the economic security department point to a series of administrative oversights. Issues range from discrepancies between the allocated land and its actual physical presence, problematic handover processes after the auction, and even historical shifts in the boundaries of neighboring plots. The complexity is further compounded by evidence of land area fluctuations in adjacent properties, the reasons for which remain unclear. The investigation is also hampered by incomplete documentation from the Binh Son Commune People's Committee, making it difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of the problem.

After receiving Mr. Dang Huy Dung's complaint, the locality invited the Provincial Inspectorate, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and relevant agencies to consult and orient a solution on December 18, 2025.

The prolonged timeline involves multiple phases of land acquisition, compensation, site clearance, and subsequent land management. The provincial police are collaborating with the Binh Son Commune People's Committee to gather all necessary information and legal documents.
