Autumn Arrives in Greece: Storms, Hail, and Cooler Temperatures Expected

The Greek meteorological service is forecasting a significant shift in weather patterns as autumn begins to assert its influence. Beginning Wednesday, a cold air mass moving down from the Balkans is set to bring a dramatic change from the current milder conditions. Residents across Greece should prepare for a period of unsettled weather, characterized by rain, thunderstorms, and even hail, particularly in the northern and central parts of the country.

The forecast indicates that the unstable weather will gradually spread southward, reaching the southern Aegean by Friday. While the intensity of the phenomena is expected to peak during the afternoons, the overall impact will be a noticeable drop in temperatures. This transition marks a clear departure from the lingering summer warmth, signaling the true arrival of autumn.

For the Attica region, including Athens, the outlook is for mostly sunny skies initially, with a chance of rain on Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures will remain relatively mild, reaching up to 26 degrees Celsius in some areas. However, a general cooling trend is anticipated from Thursday onwards, with temperatures expected to fall to between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius by Friday. By Saturday, a warming trend is predicted to return, with spring-like weather expected to re-establish itself in most areas. This fluctuating pattern highlights the unpredictable nature of the transitional seasons.
