Benue hospital abduction: Police recover missing newborn, arrest suspects

A newborn baby has been safely recovered by the Benue State Police Command after being abducted from his mother at a healthcare facility in Gboko. The incident, which caused significant tension at the facility, has led to the arrest of suspects, though their exact number is yet to be disclosed.

The baby boy was born on Tuesday, August 11. Just hours after his birth, a woman posing as a nurse approached the mother and requested to examine the child. Believing the woman was hospital staff, the mother handed over her newborn. The woman then took the baby towards the labor room, and shortly after, the family discovered the child was missing.

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Peter Aondona confirmed the recovery of the baby early Thursday morning. The case was initially reported at the A Division Police Station in Gboko before being transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. The police have not yet released the identities of the arrested suspects.

The recovered infant has since been reunited with his mother. Investigations are continuing to understand the full circumstances surrounding the abduction and to identify all individuals involved.
