Bergþóra Kristinsdóttir appointed CEO of Malbikstöðin

Bergþóra Kristinsdóttir, an engineer with 27 years of experience in transport and infrastructure projects, has been appointed chief executive of Malbikstöðin.

She takes over from Vilhjálmur Þór Matthíasson, who founded the company and led it for 22 years. He will remain active as chairman of the board.

Kristinsdóttir has served as director of the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration’s service division since 2020 and has been part of the agency’s senior management. Before that, she spent more than two decades at engineering consultancy Efla, most recently as head of its transport and planning expertise.

She holds an M.Sc. in environmental and civil engineering from the University of Iceland. With her appointment, Malbikstöðin will likely become Iceland’s first asphalt company in which women hold the two top management positions. Lilja Samúelsdóttir serves as the company’s chief financial officer.

Malbikstöðin employs about 55 people and operates at Esjumelar and Flugumýri.
