Berlin Pride attack suspect identified as armed and dangerous Islamist extremist

Berlin police are urgently searching for a 21-year-old man, identified as Abdul B., who they believe is responsible for driving a car into a crowd at the city's Pride festival. The attack on Saturday evening resulted in one fatality and 16 injuries.

We have now identified the suspect. The operation to locate the alleged perpetrator, who has not yet been arrested, is ongoing.

Authorities stated that Abdul B. is known to police and has connections to the Islamist scene in Berlin. He was reportedly released from juvenile detention in May and his apartment has been searched without success. Police issued an urgent notice with his photograph and description, warning the public that he is armed and dangerous.

According to a police spokesperson, there is currently no information regarding the suspect's specific motives or the exact sequence of events. The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. local time in the Tiergarten park during the Christopher Street Day celebration, one of Europe's largest LGBTQ+ events.

However, the suspect is known to the police and comes from the Islamist milieu, here in Berlin.

Witnesses told the newspaper BILD that the suspect may have been carrying a sharp object, possibly a knife, and directed it towards the crowd. Some witnesses reported seeing people with knife wounds. The driver fled the vehicle after crashing into a tree and is currently at large.
