BNI Affirms Swadharma Cooperative is Not Part of the Bank

PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BNI, has issued a firm clarification regarding Koperasi Swadharma Pematangsiantar, emphasizing its complete separation from the bank's operations. This statement aims to dispel public confusion stemming from a case involving the cooperative, which has unfortunately led to a misperception of BNI's involvement.

Koperasi Swadharma didirikan pada 2007 melalui akta pendirian tersendiri serta memiliki struktur kepengurusan dan manajemen operasional yang independen di luar BNI.

BNI's Corporate Secretary, Okki Rushartomo, detailed that Koperasi Swadharma was established independently in 2007, with its own founding documents and an operational management structure entirely separate from BNI. Initially intended for internal employees, the cooperative's subsequent actions, including allegedly offering savings products to non-members with high yields and indications of document forgery, have deviated from its own bylaws and created a misleading association with the bank.

To preempt such misunderstandings and potential issues, BNI has enforced a policy since 2016 prohibiting any cooperative entities from operating within BNI office premises. BNI reiterates its legal position that depositors' relationships are solely with the cooperative itself, as the entity that offered and managed the savings products. While BNI acknowledges the public's concern and the time required for legal resolution, it assures that its own banking services remain secure and operational, urging the public to always verify financial product legitimacy through official channels.
