Brainstorming Alternatives to LPG, New Breakthrough Prepared by Bahlil

The Indonesian government, under the leadership of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, is actively seeking innovative solutions to bolster the nation's energy security. A key focus is reducing the significant dependence on imported Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), a vulnerability that impacts both the economy and national resilience. In response, the administration is seriously considering the development of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a viable domestic alternative.

Minister Lahadalia confirmed that the exploration of CNG is currently in the discussion and cross-sector consolidation phase. This strategic move aims to enhance energy independence by leveraging Indonesia's abundant domestic natural gas resources. Unlike LPG, which relies on imported propane and butane, natural gas, primarily composed of methane and ethane, is more readily available within the country. By compressing this gas to high pressures (250–400 bar), it can be effectively utilized as a fuel source.
