‘Business partner’ granted interim bail in Mir Raza Ali murder case

A sessions court in Karachi has granted interim pre-arrest bail to Muhammad Ahmed Bhardey, described as a "business partner" of Mir Raza Ali, the owner of the eatery Wafflix. Ali had gone missing on July 28 after leaving his home and was discovered dead the following day, his bullet-riddled body found dumped in bushes near the University of Karachi.

Bhardey approached the court seeking pre-arrest bail, with his counsel stating that the applicant was a childhood friend of Raza and they had been running the business together. Bhardey managed the Five Star Chowrangi branch, while Ali oversaw the Bahadurabad branch. Advocate Khalid Mumtaz claimed his client was being harassed by police and was ready to cooperate with the investigation, having appeared before officials whenever summoned.

The court granted Bhardey interim bail against a surety of Rs100,000 and issued notices to the investigating officer and prosecution for August 15 to confirm the bail. The preliminary hearing was conducted before the additional district and sessions judge (East).

Meanwhile, the investigation into the kidnapping-cum-murder case continues. Officials stated that the Sindh IGP-formed investigation team, led by DIG Crime & Investigation Amir Farooqi, has assigned DSP Siraj Lashari to lead the case. The team has interrogated first responders, visited the crime scene, and interviewed Raza's family.
