Canada draws Jamaica 2-2 to top Concacaf Pre-Olympic group

Canada secured the top spot in Group C of the Concacaf Pre-Olympic tournament after a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Jamaica on Saturday. The result means both nations advance to the quarterfinals, but Canada finishes ahead of Jamaica due to a superior goal difference.

Jamaica took an early lead in the 21st minute when Jahmarie Nolan finished a play initiated by Brandon Brent. The Caribbean team had opportunities to extend their advantage before halftime, but failed to convert their chances. Canada pressed for an equalizer in the second half, and their persistence paid off in the 56th minute with a goal from V. Sedin, which deflected past the goalkeeper.

Canada then took the lead in the 79th minute from a penalty converted by Marius Aiyenero after a handball. However, Jamaica earned a late equalizer in second-half stoppage time, also from a penalty, which was scored by S. Leighton after another handball incident. The dramatic finish saw the match end 2-2, concluding the group stage with both teams advancing.

The tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the 2027 World Cup. Canada's strong performance in the group stage positions them as contenders heading into the knockout rounds.
