Canada Thrashes Panama 3-0 with Emrick Fotsing's Brace

Canada secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Panama in their opening match of the Concacaf U-20 Championship, held in Puebla, Mexico. The win, driven by a stellar performance from midfielder Emrick Fotsing, marks a strong start for Canada in Group C of the tournament, which is a crucial qualifier for both the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the 2027 U-20 World Cup.

Fotsing, representing Vancouver FC, opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a powerful header from a corner kick, beating Panama's goalkeeper Alberto Ruiz. The Canadian team's early pressure paid off again in the 14th minute when Liam Mackenzie of Vancouver Whitecaps FC converted a penalty kick, extending the lead to 2-0. The penalty was awarded after a foul by Panama's Oliver Campos inside the box.

Panama's defensive struggles were further compounded when Campos received a second yellow card for a foul on Marius Aiyenero just before halftime, resulting in his expulsion and leaving Panama to play the second half with ten men. Despite some attempts by Panama to rally in the second half, Canada maintained control of the match.

Fotsing sealed the decisive 0-3 victory in added time of the second half, scoring his second goal of the game from close range. The match also saw yellow cards issued to Liam Mackenzie for Canada and Klissman de Gracia and Oliver Campos for Panama, with Campos being sent off.
