Cities with the most polluted air in Kazakhstan named

Kazakhstan has identified the cities experiencing the most severe air pollution in April 2024, according to data released by Kazhydromet. Out of 68 monitored locations across the country, a significant number registered elevated levels of air pollution.

The highest classification, "very high" pollution levels, was recorded in two cities: Karaganda and Petropavl. These locations are facing the most critical air quality issues. Additionally, 13 locations were classified as having "high" pollution levels. These include major cities and industrial centers such as Aktobe, Almaty, Atyrau, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Ridder, Temirtau, Abay, Satpayev, Pavlodar, Turkestan, Talgar, Astana, and the village of Shubarshi.

Seventeen locations reported "elevated" pollution levels, indicating a concerning trend in air quality. These areas include Shymkent, Aktau, Kostanay, Semey, Zhezkazgan, Taldykorgan, Balkhash, Rudny, Arkalyk, Zhitikara, Aralsk, Shu, Ayagoz, Zhanbay village, and the settlements of Ganyushkino, Kenkiyak, and Kyzylsay. In contrast, 36 locations were classified as having "low" air pollution levels.

Notably, Karaganda has been a persistent feature on the list of cities with the most polluted air for several consecutive months. In March, Karaganda, Zhezkazgan, Satpayev, and Abay were identified with very high pollution levels. In February, Karaganda, Satpayev, and Abay also fell into this category. This consistent presence highlights a long-term air quality challenge in Karaganda.
