Kazhydromet Warns of Air Pollution Conditions in Astana, Almaty and Four Other Cities

Kazhydromet has warned residents of Astana, Almaty and four other Kazakh cities about weather conditions that could contribute to air pollution on Thursday.

The warning covers Uralsk, Aktobe, Astana, Almaty, Atyrau and Ust-Kamenogorsk. Forecasters said calm conditions, light winds, fog and temperature inversions could allow harmful pollutants to accumulate near the ground.

Astana is expected to have partly cloudy, dry weather, with temperatures from 5 to 7 degrees Celsius at night and 20 to 22 degrees during the day. Almaty could see light rain and thunderstorms, with temperatures between 11 and 23 degrees. Aktobe is forecast to remain clear and dry, reaching 28 to 30 degrees during the day.

Atyrau is expected to be clear and dry, with daytime temperatures of 29 to 31 degrees. Uralsk will have partly cloudy and dry conditions, with temperatures reaching 28 to 30 degrees. Ust-Kamenogorsk could see fog overnight and in the morning, with temperatures from 1 to 3 degrees at night and 15 to 17 degrees during the day.
