Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina, new Atlante reinforcement

Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina has been presented as the new reinforcement for Mexican club Atlante, preparing for the Apertura tournament.

"We welcome David Ospina to the team of the people. It is time to defend the historic Iron Colts of Atlante," the club announced via social media. Ospina, 37, joins Atlante from Colombian club Atlético Nacional, where he played from 2024 until the first half of this year.

Ospina possesses significant international experience. He previously played for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia (2022-2024), Napoli in Italy's Serie A (2018-2022), Arsenal in England (2014-2018), and Nice in France (2008-2014). His career began at Atlético Nacional in 2005, and he has been a fixture for the Colombian national team since the youth levels.

He debuted with the senior national team in 2010 and has been called up for the 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2026 World Cup qualifiers, as well as six Copa América tournaments. His trophy cabinet includes two league titles with Atlético Nacional, two Colombian Super Cups, one Coppa Italia with Napoli, three FA Community Shields, and two FA Cups with Arsenal.

Ospina is expected to be the starting goalkeeper for Atlante, competing with Óscar Jiménez and Roberto Barragán. The team is managed by Miguel 'Piojo' Herrera, who previously coached Mexico's national team. Atlante began their Apertura campaign with a 2-1 loss to Necaxa and will host América in their next match.
