President Luis Abinader commissions Dominican athletes for Central American and Caribbean Games

President Luis Abinader officially commissioned the Dominican Republic's delegation for the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games, handing over the national flag in a ceremony held in Santo Domingo. The games are scheduled to take place in the capital from July 24 to August 8.

The ceremony, held at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center's Volleyball Palace, also served to inaugurate newly renovated and constructed sports facilities. Among the completed projects are the taekwondo pavilion and upgrades to the existing volleyball palace. President Abinader toured several of the venues within the Olympic Center, accompanied by key government officials, including the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, and the Minister of Public Works and Communications, Víctor Bisonó.

Minister Cruz highlighted the significance of the upgraded infrastructure, stating that the new and renovated buildings are of international caliber and will leave a lasting legacy for the development of youth sports in the country. He specifically mentioned the recently inaugurated Palace of Sports and the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium, noting its high-quality track. Minister Bisonó affirmed the government's commitment to ensuring the facilities were "extraordinary" and worthy of hosting the centenary edition of the regional sporting event, which originated in Mexico in 1929. This marks the third time the Dominican Republic will host the games, having previously done so in Santo Domingo in 1974 and Santiago in 1986.
