Da Nang police conduct drug tests on bus drivers before holiday departures

Traffic police in Da Nang are stepping up efforts to ensure road safety during the upcoming September 2nd National Day holiday. Authorities are implementing comprehensive measures, including intensified patrols and strict checks, particularly focusing on key routes and high-traffic areas.

A significant aspect of this initiative involves testing passenger bus drivers for alcohol and drug consumption before they depart from the central bus station. This measure is designed to guarantee the safety of passengers traveling during the extended holiday period. The police are concentrating their checks on entry and exit points of the city, bus stations, train stations, tourist attractions, and event venues, especially during peak hours and at night.

Violations that directly contribute to traffic accidents, such as drunk or drugged driving, speeding, overloading, and lane violations, are being targeted for strict enforcement. With an anticipated increase in vehicle traffic during the holiday, Da Nang traffic police are proactively deploying strategies to prevent accidents and traffic jams. Teams will be stationed at potential congestion points to manage traffic flow and quickly clear any incidents or sudden surges in vehicles.

In addition to patrols and traffic management, the traffic police are coordinating with relevant authorities and bus station management. They are inspecting the safety conditions of vehicles and drivers and conducting awareness campaigns to remind drivers and passengers about traffic safety regulations. The drug and alcohol tests conducted before departure aim to promptly detect and deter drivers who may be under the influence, ensuring that only sober and fit drivers are behind the wheel.

One bus driver, Tran Thanh T., who operates the Da Nang-Hanoi route, expressed support for the pre-departure checks, stating that they enhance drivers' awareness of their responsibility for passenger safety. He noted that drivers are complying willingly with these measures, recognizing that passenger safety is paramount.
