Daniel Vallejo: 'I Dream of Being in the Top Ten'

Paraguayan tennis player Adolfo Daniel Vallejo, currently ranked 61st in the ATP, harbors ambitious goals that include breaking into the Top 10 and surpassing the achievements of Victor Pecci, considered Paraguay's greatest tennis player. In a recent interview with the digital portal Tribuna del Tenis, Vallejo clarified his aspirations, stating that while he doesn't dream of becoming world number one, he does envision himself among the top five players globally. Vallejo, who turned professional in 2023, views Pecci's career, which included a world No. 9 ranking and a Roland Garros semifinal appearance in 1979, as a significant benchmark. He expressed a desire to become the best athlete in his country's history, a title he believes Pecci holds. Vallejo's immediate objective is to secure a spot in the Top 50 before the year concludes, a goal he feels is within reach due to his ongoing development. He approaches the North American tour with confidence, bolstered by strong performances in Cincinnati, despite a tough loss to Tommy Paul. Vallejo recently defeated Pablo Carreño Busta in Winston-Salem, highlighting his ability to manage pressure during matches, even when facing difficulties. He attributes his progress to maturing as both a player and a person, anticipating becoming a more complete athlete with a clearer understanding of his game on the court within the next two years.
